My style of therapy is strongly influenced by mindfulness-based psychotherapies, such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and compassion-focused therapy. Together, we’ll work to uncover what matters most deeply to you and creates meaning in your life. This is a much different goal than simply “feeling better”. By moving in the direction of what matters most to you, it is very likely that you will come across painful thoughts and feelings. Working collaboratively, we’ll see how we can hold painful material in a way that minimizes unnecessary suffering and doesn’t require you to retreat from taking important steps in the direction of a meaningful life, as defined by you.

In addition to being a licensed psychologist, I am also a qualified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher through the UCSD Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Institute. Along with my colleague, Dr. Josh Cohen, several times per year I run the full MBSR program. We are always learning about and developing new mindfulness-based programs to bring to the community. You can learn about our offerings at http://www.tworiversmindfulnessinstitute.com. On a personal note, my decade long mindfulness practice, which includes daily practice, annual silent retreats, and mentorship with senior teachers, has nourished and sustained me in transformational ways. It’s an absolute honor to teach these practices to others and support them in their journey.

Let’s build something together.
